We were blessed to be able to share about missions and minister at the Southern California Kidfest, held at Living Waters Christian Fellowship. We had such an awesome time as hundreds of kids were transformed!

We had the honor to be a “face” for missions at the Kidfest event held in Texas. There were around 800 kids in attendance. Spike & Sparkle performed each day and we had the honor to talk to the kids about life as a missionary. Kudos to Tony Lane & the folks who organized this event and their heart for exposing kids to the importance of reaching the world! We were honored to be a part.

Trusting the Father … Again

I am a planner by nature. I love to make spreadsheets and calendars and organized plans. But God seems to have a way of making His own plans and He doesn’t always send a memo in advance. My mom says that God keeps us on a need-to-know basis. Obviously, we have a choice to follow His plan or stick with our own. It is often hard to let go and trust, but oh how sweet is the reward when we do.

Last week I had to let go and trust some our friends in Ecuador to pack up all of our belongings and move us OUT of our rental house while we were still in the U.S. I know it seems silly, but maybe at least the women can relate … it was really a struggle for me to know that someone else was going through my cabinets and I had no control or knowledge over how things were packed. How many times do we try to keep “control” of our lives instead of truly giving that up to God?

This move was an unexpected change in our “plan” (there’s that word again). We had expected to be returning to Ecuador right now, not spending 5 more months in California!!! But when we truly let go and trust the Father, He will take us on some amazing journeys.

Our journey has led us to meet some amazing brothers and sisters in the Kingdom who are passionate about the work in Ecuador and are helping us to find sponsors for planting churches. Bobby has been challenged in his studies at Fuller and has been encouraged by his professors to take more courses now. He is a top candidate for receiving a study grant for working with the Quichua Indians in Ecuador. And just yesterday, Bobby was asked to work on the church planting initiative for ALL Latin American countries (not just Ecuador)! These are all really amazing stops along the journey that we never planned for.

Many people think that trusting God completely should be easy for us – after all we’ve done the whole “sell your belongings and become missionaries thing”. But submission is something that every Christian must work on daily with diligence. I challenge you (and myself) to try a radical step of Faith this year an do something that requires relying on the Father. You will be stretched and will grow in Him.

Giving the gift of Giving… huh?

Many people we know this year, are talking about refocusing on the REASON for the Season and how to express that in their family celebrations. One gift that we can give that reinforces this is to the gift of GIVING. To give to a worthy cause in honor of someone else is a pretty cool thing. Let’s face it, most of us have everything we WANT and rather than get another gadget to go into the clutter drawer, why not let the gift be something with eternal significance? Pretty cool!

Teaching a memory verse game

We took another journey along with 2 SEMISUD students to visit an indigenous church for training children’s ministry workers. This was supposed to be a district-wide training with representatives from 8 different churches. However, we have learned to expect the unexpected and be prepared for anything.

First of all, we arrived and no one was to be seen. A quick phone call revealed that the pastor thought we were coming later in the day. No problem! We took off to a neighboring town that has a famous Catholic church and we played tourist for a little bit.

When we returned to the church, we realized there were only children’s workers from THIS specific church. Another conversation revealed that somehow communication with the other churches didn’t take place. I’ll admit, I was a little frustrated. I mean we had traveled over 1 hour to get there, prepared for a large group with handouts and gifts, etc. What is it the Bible says about this attitude of mine… hmm… not good!

So we proceeded with our training session and a funny thing happened. This “small” group was REALLY into what we had to say. You see, for many of them, our previous district trainings had been too far away for them to travel. They were hearing these ideas for the very first time and scooping it up like it was gold!

Once I got mySELF and my attitude behind me, we had an amazing time of God blessing and annointing. These dedicated, young Christians are truly hungry to know how to teach their children. How to help them apply God’s Word to their lives so that they CAN say no to the lives of sin they see modeled all around them.

As it turns out, this intimate time of training was ordained. I KNOW that the few simple things we brought to them, with the power of God behind them will change their whole ministry. They are now inspired and confident as ministers in Christ. I am thankful that God uses us human vessels even though we are often cranky and frustrated when things don’t go the way WE “thought” they should.
