Sponsorship FAQ’s

Why a sponsorship program?
A key objective of our ministry in Ecuador is to build long-term relationships with the children who attend our programs. Our holistic approach provides education, benevolent assistance and family training that better equips them for the future. Child sponsorship allows us to partner donors with a specific child and help to cultivate a meaningful relationship between the two. We believe our children can greatly benefit from having a loving friend (amigo) who is praying for them and helping to provide for their care.

How will I interact with my Amigo (sponsored child)?
We ask that you share a photo of yourself and write letters to your sponsored child. In turn, you will receive updates from your child. You may communicate as much or little as you like. Digital communication is encouraged due to difficulties and delays with physical mail. You are welcome to come and meet your child. All communication will be done through us and not directly with the child in order to protect the privacy of the child’s family.

What specific things will my Amigo receive?
Your sponsorship of a child enrolled in our programs will help provide:

  • Educational assistance and enrichment classes
  • Nutritional assistance
  • Medical assistance
  • Clothing
  • School supplies
  • Birthday gift
  • Christmas gifts*
  • Special outings

*Christmas gifts are provided by your sponsorship along with extra donations specifically for the Christmas event.

May I send gifts to my Amigo?
You may send gifts, but we ask that you check with us first. We want to avoid the situation where some children receive extravagant gifts and others do not. Due to customs restrictions and the difficulty of receiving packages here in Ecuador, the best option is when we can purchase the gift in Ecuador for you. Other plans can be made, such as sending your gift with someone who is coming to visit us.

How long should I sponsor my Amigo?
We offer support of the child until they reach 18 years of age. While we hope that you can continue your relationship with the child until this age, we understand that your circumstances may change. You may cancel your sponsorship at any time and we will find another sponsor for your child.

What happens if my child leaves your program?
In the case that your sponsored child leaves our program for whatever reason, we will communicate directly with you and offer to pair you with another child.

Am I the only sponsor for my Amigo?
At this time, yes. However, once we reach our goal of having all of the enrolled children sponsored, we may allow multiple sponsors per child. The reason for this is that there are many other children who participate in our programs but aren’t eligible for the Amigos program for reasons such as sporadic attendance or parents who do not wish to give permission for participation. We WILL NOT refuse any child who wishes to participate solely because they can not be sponsored.
